Slinging Safety Awareness Course


The course covers all the basic areas of safe slinging techniques.
The law & legislation surrounding lifting equipment
Slingers/Banksmans hand signals
Daily inspection of equipment
Fault finding and basic maintenance of lifting tackle
Understanding the variety of slings - wire ropes, fibre ropes etc.
Selecting the correct sling(s) for the loads
Fitting the sling(s) correctly
Shortening the sling(s) correctly
All these areas are reinforced by a dvd session and assessed with a written theory test.
The course also consists of a practical test.
Each trainee performs various lifts and is assessed on the following:
Choosing the sling
Fitting the sling
Lifting and manoeuvring the load
Awareness of safety procedures
The set down and clear up procedure
The course is completed with a question and answer period. Any area's the trainee's are uncertain of are cleared up.
The number of trainee's on the slinging course is restricted to a maximum of 6.
This ensures that each individual can receive sufficient practical experience.
The trainee must complete and pass both the theoretical and operational test in order to receive a certificate of basic Slinging Awareness.
